Clothes Power
Human beings are visual creatures. We believe what we see and make assumptions and judgements accordingly.
We frequently encounter the “Clothes Don’t Matter” attitude. But the truth is far more than that. If still in doubt whether clothes matter, ask yourself this question — When was the last time you went out without your clothes on?
Food, Clothing and Shelter are ranked among basic human needs for survival. Clothing is the basic necessity of an individual and yet we often compromise and neglect the impact it creates on us and others.
Clothing needs can be Physical. Psychological, Social or Aesthetic
The clothes we choose to wear directly affects the way we think, the way we feel, the way we act and the way others react or respond to us.
We cannot afford to think negatively, we cannot afford to feel depressed, insecure or uncomfortable, we cannot act or behave arrogant or out of place.
Your clothing pieces are sending out messages which you are unaware of. It shows to the world your trustworthiness, credibility, authenticity and the values you want to project.
Are you projecting the right image? Are your clothes giving out signals you want to share with others or they are not in sync with your inner attributes and inner self.
Think before you pick an outfit about the message you want to send to others.
Always ask yourself these questions.
1. Where I am going ?
2. Who will I meet there?
3. What is the occasion?
4. What kind of crowd will be there?
5. What is the purpose of this meeting ?
6. How I want others to perceive me as?
Questions like these gives us clarity in our judgment of picking out an outfit of the day.
Keep these things in mind before selecting your outfit once you have finished asking those questions
- Time of the day
- Weather conditions
- Place of meeting — outdoor/indoor
This will help in selecting the right kind of fabric you will pick keeping comfort in mind.
When clothing needs are met, your mind is usually free from concern about your clothing and appearance. You are able to concentrate on other important endeavours.
When clothing needs are not met, your mind is often occupied with concern about yourself or others in terms of clothing and appearance. You are conscious of self, or self-conscious. Your mind is not able to concentrate or focus on other important matters.
Be confident in yourself and dress accordingly to create an impact on others. Your clothes make a statement without you saying a word.
